Throughout Florida, Convention of States Action leaders are offering an amazing opportunity for members of Young Americans for COS https://conventionofstates.com/youngamericans to learn about a Constitutional process in which all Americans should know about, support and participate.
Clubs and groups in high schools and colleges that are civic and government oriented are asked to be a part of this huge and impactful educational project that will demonstrate how the Article V Convention of States process is carried out.
Our goal is to have 50 Florida schools, representing our 50 states, engage in a simulated Article V Convention. Clubs and chapters of various school base organizations, like Turning Point, YAF, Young Republicans and others are invited to get involved. If your school does not have such a group, COS can offer guidance in forming a Citizens for Self-Governance (CSG) chapter.
How do I get my school organization involved?
It all begins by having your school invite a COS Action representative to come speak to your group or your school, sharing information about this monumental historical effort to restore our republic. After an informational talk and Q&A, students will be invited to join our organization at conventionofstates.com and be part of an ongoing project to educate both schools and communities about our effort to reign in our out-of-control federal government.
As each chapter forms and/or joins this Article V COS Simulation Project, your school will be advised and guided by knowledgeable COS leaders from your local area. Your school group will be allowed to choose which state you would like to represent on a first come-first choice basis.
You will then be connected with COS leadership from that state that your school is representing. They will share information (you will also be asked to do some research on your own) on how that state's legislative bodies are working toward or resisting against an Article V COS.
Your chapter, club or group will then hold mock committee hearings, deliberation and debates, and have simulated floor votes for the application's resolution. Your club or group would then choose commissioners (as closely in the manner that your representative state would do) to send to the Florida Simulated Convention of States.
When will this Simulated Convention take place and where?
Just as the real Article V effort is up to the actions of the state legislators, this simulated COS will be up to all those schools involved in this project. The Convention will be planned within a reasonable time after 34 simulated states (schools) have
- gone through all the mock committee hearings in both Senate and House,
- floor debates and votes in both chambers,
- as well as have chosen commissioners to attend the simulated convention.
Schools that have gone through the "passed states" process will be welcome to encourage and advise other school groups still going through the process via online conference meetings or in person. This will help bring about the simulated convention more quickly. All throughout this process, all chapters will continue to meet and discuss the real Article V process and progress that is being made (or hindered) on a national level.
I really believe we need an Article V COS and want to help, but what if I'm no longer in school?
We really could use your help in serving as an advisor and mentor. Consider going back to your high school or college and meeting with that favorite history teacher or professor or advisor to the club or student government to which you once belonged. Or maybe help your former school form a charter that you wish existed when you were a student there. COS leadership will help with the Constitutional and technical aspects of this sim process, but we need enthusiastic adults like you to be there for support.
What if I'd rather not lead a charter group, but want to be involved in some other way?
We want to promote and publicize this project as much as we can to raise awareness of the need for our nation to engage in an Article V Convention of States. That means we need as many supportive volunteers helping to promote the activities and events that these amazing students will hold.
We will also need people willing and available to record these events on video, report in our local and social media, as well as write up blog posts for our website. We are seeking grassroots community support for this project, therefore we will be grateful for any helpful effort you have to offer as a member of our Constitution loving community.
If you have children or grandchildren of high school or college age, by all means please encourage them to be part of this amazing opportunity to learn about our ultimate civic duty in defending Liberty.
