Florida Reclaiming Liberty

Published in Blog on October 11, 2022 by Cynthia Kisby

Hurricane Ian decimated parts of Florida but that did not deter our efforts to gather with courage to recharge our conviction for the fight at hand.  At the 2022 Leadership Summit we are warned that it will not get easier.

First-time, in-person, face-to-face greetings hugged us at every turn. Mark Meckler marched his army of friends to the stage for our counsel and advice. Every program blessed us with hope and strategies.

One of the recurring themes of this conference was our duty to seek and defend truth. Mark reminded us more than once that “reality is an acquired taste.” We need to accept that some people just cannot and will not recognize the unvarnished state of affairs.

He stressed that it won’t help our cause to argue with the alternate universe, but it might help to ask thought-provoking questions.

Questions that lead to common ground might open an eye to truth. For example, regardless of which side of a policy we are talking about, most Americans would prefer to have control over the decision. Here we make our case that this is exactly what COS is trying to do, give control back to the people.

Garry Nation as George Mason advises John Cunningham on a frequent recurrence to the fundamentals.

Michael Farris reinforced the idea of talking about the benefits of Article V.

  • How great would it be if the federal government could only spend money on its specifically enumerated powers?
  • Wouldn’t we have better schools if communities could control the curriculum to match local values?
  • Wouldn’t you rather talk to your neighbor about rules for your community?

In the session Telling the COS Story Garrett Humbertson and Andrew Lusch reminded us of the basics. Every great story has a hero and a villain. We the People are David being thwarted by Goliath, the DC elite. We need to go on the offensive and maximize our version of the story. We can’t let the opposition put their labels on us.

Use the COS narrative in five simple points:

  • Self-governance is at the core of American heritage

  • Our founding, on Judeo-Christian values and Greek reason, was an epic moment in history

  • DC elites want to take away our self-governance

  • Article V gives us the constitutional, peaceful ability to reclaim our liberty and power

  • COS empowers a grassroots army of self-governing activists

Inspiring Quotes

Mark Levin – “It’s not the majority that determines history.”

James O’Keefe – “People have to see someone else do it."

Rick Santorum – “Don’t let the failure of liberty be on us.”

Rick Green – “Be dangerous to those who oppose liberty.”

Tom Coburn – "This republic does not have to die."

We were so blessed to hear from so many loving, generous, and inspiring speakers who all recognized the hand of God in our work. I only scratch the surface of their wisdom here.

Hopefully the recordings of these inspiring programs will be available to all soon. In the meantime the COS University is the place to start your journey. Join us in this fight to reclaim liberty.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
