Many people know Michael Farris for his expertise in constitutional law, the homeschool movement, and many other successful efforts rooted in self-governance.
Farris is the co-founder of Convention of States Action and currently serves as a senior advisor, traveling to state legislatures to testify on behalf of the grassroots. But many people only see Mr. Farris in his professional state.
He also has a huge family and hobbies that we would never know from the outside. We asked Mike Farris for five "fast facts" on his life, personal or professional. Here they are:
1. His first major constitutional victory was getting the parking meter ordinance of Spokane, Washington declared unconstitutional. Overtime parking was a misdemeanor but it presumed the guilt of the registered owner. He argued that this violated the rule of the presumption of innocence.
2. He was a lifeguard for five summers.
3. Farris has 10 kids and 29 grandchildren. Back when he and his wife were dating, he won a college speech contest advocating zero population growth. Let’s just say his views have changed on that!
4. He has flown over two million miles on United Airlines. He does a lot of traveling not just for COSA but also for his many other leadership roles. Just a few of the states he has traveled to on behalf of COSA so far this year include Iowa, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Wyoming.
5. He plays oldies rock and roll on his electric guitar.
Who knew Mike Farris played electric guitar?!

Farris returned to Convention of States Action at the start of the year, which means we're nearing two months since his official return. Just recently he wrote a piece on the single-subject rule, which you can read here.
