The far-left advocacy organization Common Cause has been a longtime opponent of the nationwide grassroots movement to call the first-ever Article V Convention of States.
In 2017 Common Cause joined forces with leftist billionaire George Soros (along with several far-right groups) to attack the integrity of the millions of Americans who support a Convention of States. We documented that attack campaign at the time, which you can check out in the video below.
Now they're at it again, and this time they're hoping their fear-mongering can turn into donations. The Convention of States national team was informed by a state volunteer that Common Cause had sent an email asking its supporters to donate to stop the "unelected, unaccountable delegates" who will be "granted the power to write their far right-wing agenda into our Constitution."
The email is filled with inaccuracies and exaggerations, of course. The delegates who attend the convention will be elected according to the requirements of each state. And, unlike the bureaucrats who work in Washington, these delegates are operating under a system expressly mentioned in the Constitution. The Founders never said anything about the EPA or the IRS, but they did unanimously include the Convention of States option in Article V.
What's more, a Convention of States doesn't have the power to amend the Constitution on its own. Any amendment proposal must be ratified by 38 states, which means that only the best and most popular amendments will become part of our founding document.
As Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler has said many times, being attacked by organizations like Common Cause -- who are clearly terrified the Article V movement will be successful -- means we're on the right track. Statists and elitists in D.C. will do anything to stop a Convention of States, and they're desperate for the funds to continue their disinformation campaign.
But they don't have the facts or the will of the American people on their side. Over three million Americans have signed on to support the first-ever Article V Convention of States, and that number is growing by the day. If you haven't signed your name to the list, you can right now! Simpy sign the Convention of States Petition below to let your state legislator know that you support the last, best chance to rein in the out-of-control federal government and put We the People back in control.
