In a first for Convention of States, one of our recent social media graphics was labeled as "misinformation" by Facebook after being "fact-checked" by USA today.
The outlet rated our claim that Joe Biden's "Build Back Better" boondoggle will actually cost $5 trillion as "missing context." As a result, Facebook labeled the post as "misinformation."
Here's the offending post, if you're curious:
Facebook argues that, actually, Build Back Better costs exactly what Biden says it costs. The additional costs would be accrued later, if Congress votes to continue the president's new social welfare programs that supposedly sunset in just a few years.
However, as anyone living in reality can tell you, Congress never chooses to end social welfare programs. It's too politically costly. They'll maintain Biden's massive programs after the sunset date, and the true cost of the bill will be $5 trillion.
It's true that we did not link this graphic to any additional information. We did, however, post an article the week prior that outlines exactly why Build Back Better will cost $5 trillion.
Here's an excerpt:
Thanks to some tricky accounting and fake "sunset" clauses, the bill's authors can claim the smaller price tag knowing all along that the programs contained within it will bankrupt our nation.
Here's how the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget explains it:
The Build Back Better Act relies on a number of arbitrary sunsets and expirations to lower the official cost of the bill. These include extending the American Rescue Plan’s Child Tax Credit (CTC) increase and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) expansion for a year, setting universal pre-K and child care subsidies to expire after six years, making the Affordable Care Act (ACA) expansions available through 2025, delaying the requirement that businesses amortize research and experimentation (R&E) costs until 2026, and setting several other provisions – from targeted tax credits to school lunch programs – to expire prematurely…
We estimate extending expiring parts of the Build Back Better Act would cost over $2.5 trillion, increasing the total cost of permanent extension of the bill to above $4.9 trillion.
The only way this post counts as "misinformation" is if you live in a fantasy land that says Congress will ever repeal social welfare programs. Since they never have (and never will), Build Back Better will cost $5 trillion, not $1.75 trillion, as Biden claims.
This is nothing new, of course. For years, Big Tech has been conspiring with Big Government to bring down the Convention of States movement.
They've published hit pieces. They've threatened to suspend our YouTube channel. And they've blocked our ads on Facebook.
Now, they're conspiring again to block the Convention of States message and protect their allies in the Biden administration.
A Convention of States can't propose constitutional amendments to control Facebook's actions. But it can ensure that the federal government stops using their cronies in Silicon Valley to do their bidding.
An Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can shrink federal power to a short, narrowly tailored set of issues, and leave all other issues to the states and the people.
You can bet that Big Tech would be far less willing to cater to the federal government if Washington no longer had the power to regulate their industry and force smaller companies out of business. Big Tech is begging Washington to regulate them. They know they're the only companies that can comply with those regulations, which would eliminate competition and give them even greater control over what is said and done in this country.
We can't let that happen. By stripping Washington of its power to regulate, we can open the playing field to the free market and put We the People back in control.
