“America is back,” the official White House website blazoned after Donald Trump was sworn in on Monday.
“Every single day I will be fighting for you with every breath in my body,” the new president declared. “I will not rest until we have delivered the strong, safe and prosperous America that our children deserve and that you deserve. This will truly be the golden age of America.”
Men who love this country and seek to promulgate her values have become a rare breed in Washington. Trump is a breath of fresh air. Emasculated by Marxist sensibilities about “evil,” “oppressor” nations, our leaders have spent decades apologizing for our existence and groveling before international alliances. But no more.
The past two days have marked a sweeping tonal reset. Gone are the days where we hang our heads in shame and plead for forgiveness for the nation’s bygone failures. The president’s latest executive actions have put the kibosh on American self-pity. National pride is making a comeback!
I already covered the executive orders Trump signed at the Capital One inaugural parade and ceremony. Since then, he’s issued dozens more. I haven’t agreed with them all, but most have been absolutely epic — like no one has ever seen before.
World Health Organization
In 2020, the Trump administration announced its intent to withdraw from the World Health Organization. Less than one year later, on the same day President Joe Biden assumed office, the new administration revoked Trump’s withdrawal. Fast forward four years to January 20, 2025: On the first day of his second term, Trump once again ordered the U.S. to exit the WHO, citing the organization’s mishandling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which, ever-trolling, he pointed out “arose out of Wuhan, China.”
The Southern Border
This next one’s easy: According to Trump, the Biden immigration crisis is a national emergency, which must be dealt with accordingly.
“To protect the security and safety of United States citizens, to protect each of the States against invasion, and to uphold my duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, it is my responsibility as President to ensure that the illegal entry of aliens into the United States via the southern border be immediately and entirely stopped,” he declared.
’Bout time someone said it.
Forest Fire Prevention
“Putting People Over Fish: Stopping Radical Environmentalism to Provide Water to Southern California.” This one wins for the name. Trump is not an ichthyophile. But seriously, fixing California’s water infrastructure, especially after the recent tragic Los Angeles fires, is probably a good idea (if not constitutionally questionable).
Promoting Beautiful Federal Civic Architecture
I love this one. We want to take pride in our country, right? Well, we should start by ensuring our government buildings reflect the greatness of the nation they represent.
“Federal public buildings should be visually identifiable as civic buildings and respect regional, traditional, and classical architectural heritage in order to uplift and beautify public spaces and ennoble the United States and our system of self-government,” the president proclaimed.
Mount McKinley and the Gulf of America
Speaking of ennoblement, “Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness” seeks to rename Mount Denali in Alaska to Mount McKinley, honoring President William McKinley, and change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.
“It is in the national interest to promote the extraordinary heritage of our Nation and ensure future generations of American citizens celebrate the legacy of our American heroes,” Trump wrote. “The naming of our national treasures, including breathtaking natural wonders and historic works of art, should honor the contributions of visionary and patriotic Americans in our Nation’s rich past.”
Mr. President, may I suggest that you also revive your “National Garden of American Heroes,” which was canceled by your predecessor. Oh, and bring back the Washington Redskins, too, please!
DOGE
At last! The time has come for every federally-employed climate advisor to quake in their boots. Elon Musk is bringing the sink to Washington with a business-minded approach to draining the swamp. Although COS endorser Vivek Ramaswamy has dropped out of the project to focus on his Ohio gubernatorial race, the SpaceX Founder remains focused on the task at hand.
In addition to creating the Department of Government Efficiency, the president also aims to end government DEI programs and restore merit-based hiring practices.
American Pride > National Pride
This final measure comes from the desk of the new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, a long-time COS endorser. Shortly after being sworn into office, Rubio ordered that U.S. facilities, including foreign embassies, can only fly the Stars and the Stripes. That means no more LGBTQIA+ Pride or Black Lives Matter flags. The only exceptions are for the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag and the Wrongful Detainees flag.
Of course, the fact that it takes a new administration to ensure that U.S. government buildings only fly the American flag is a devastating indictment against the previous administration. But more than that, it proves that national pride is back in style.
America may not be perfect. Neither is Donald Trump. But having a president who openly celebrates the country and actively seeks to restore its greatness is something we should all rally behind.
If you’re like me, however, you may have noticed one notable item missing from the above list: Trump's endorsement of Convention of States, of course! Urge the president to support the grassroots-led movement to end federal tyranny through an Article V convention by signing the open letter to Trump today!
