The Convention of States Emerging Leaders Program concluded its 10-month long internship program earlier this month and sent about a dozen liberty-minded and self-governing young adults off into the world to help make a positive impact on the future of America.
As a recent intern who has moved on to a full-time position with COS as a staff writer, I would encourage all college students and young professionals who seek to make a difference in our nation to apply for this fall’s program, which is already open.
It’s an opportunity that should be highly considered by everyone. Not only is it remote, part-time and paid, but the entire organization and dedicated staff pour so much into each person because they know we must be equipped with the proper knowledge and experience to fight for our nation.
The internship consists of leadership training, professional development, and intellectual development through lessons on Western civilization and statesmanship. This is a direct investment in you and I, something I hope to one day carry on to others.
Additionally, the connections made between the many other talented interns, the staff and even COS President Mark Meckler himself are something that no other organization offers.
One of the most important parts for me? Knowing that my work was directly helping to make an impact on the country by working towards the goal of an Article V convention.
Intern Coordinator Andrew Lusch served as an incredible mentor to this year’s class of interns. He started as an intern in 2019, served two classes of interns and has now grown into a new role on the national staff.
“In 2019, I started as an intern with Convention of States. I quickly realized this organization cares less about politics and more about legacy as they pour so much into every young leader that joins their program. It is nothing short of transformative. Since then, I have been honored to carry on the legacy as the internship leader. I’ve watched several young leaders, far more talented than me, grow through this transformative program, and now, after two years, I have the distinguished pleasure of passing the torch to the next leader, Jackson Allen.”

Jackson Allen is the new intern coordinator and is preparing to start the hiring process for the upcoming class of interns.
“The Emerging Leaders Program is one of a kind. Our goal is to pour everything we can into our interns to help them develop into the best leaders they can be. Having been involved with the Emerging Leaders Program since 2019, I have witnessed and experienced first hand how transformational this program can be. The Emerging Leaders Program is unique each year and is constantly growing and improving. Leading the ELP next year, I am excited to reach new heights and see everything we can accomplish!”

Convention of States seeks to limit the size of the federal government through term limits and fiscal restraints. We’re not here to simply talk about the problems happening in today’s world, we’re here to take real action and be a solution.
