COS Loves Informed Citizens

Published in Blog on May 01, 2023 by Cynthia Kisby

We all know it’s nearly impossible to discern truth, let alone unexpected consequences. Even when we try to find news that provides unadulterated facts, we may not have enough background knowledge to understand what the facts mean. That explains the popularity of editorial opinions, talk shows, and social media. Whose opinion do you trust?

"nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle."

Thomas Jefferson to John Norvell, June 11, 1807

COS University makes learning easy. You do not have to be an A-student to watch a video and review lessons you heard in grade school if you were lucky.

  • The GOV 100 course will reacquaint you with our Constitution.
  • DC 100 will prepare you to become a District Captain.
  • COS 300 enlightens members about the COS culture.

You do not have to volunteer in order to be the beneficiary of some helpful programs. Beginning courses are free to anyone who creates a COS account. COS also has advanced courses for volunteers that explain the legal limits of our volunteer work, how to work with legislators, and how to respond to opposition.

Another reason to look into what COS has to offer is for your children and grandchildren's future. Schools have drifted away from teaching traditional American history and values in favor of climate change and gender identity. Since we humans are not perfect, maybe sometimes even lazy, we can be duped. We may trust “experts” who do not have our best interest at heart.

We need to start paying attention and do a little homework.

COS welcomes you to a community of people who care about our country. The COS partnership with Patriot Academy has introduced many to the concept of Biblical Citizenship where even more free courses are available. Once you meet and join people who are enthusiastic and engaged you will discover other sources like Hillsdale College.

Get over your inertia and take the plunge.

Join us today and do one little thing every day to help our country live up to its full potential.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
