COS celebrates major petition milestone

Published in Blog on April 25, 2025 by Jakob Fay

Convention of States Action, the nation’s leading grassroots organization dedicated to calling an Article V convention, recently crossed 2,700,000 petitions signed — a testimony to the dedication of the grassroots activists who work tirelessly in the field to raise awareness about the solution as big as the problem.

“Convention of States is a movement by the people, for the people,” said COS Director of Grassroots, Jason Girard. “Our grassroots labor tirelessly and sacrificially to spread the word. Gathering petitions is a big part of the work they do, and reaching this recent milestone of 2.7 million petitions is due to their heroic efforts.”

At COS, our growing list of petitions represents more than just a number — it reflects the voices of real citizens demanding change. Every signature counts. Thanks to our advanced legislative outreach system and vast grassroots network, each petition is delivered directly to the signer’s state representative and senator. This ensures that grassroots pressure stays strong where it matters most — in the state legislatures — as we work to pass our resolution.

“The vast majority of those petitions are gained through our grassroots having one-on-one, personal conversations with people spreading the word in their community,” explained Mr. Girard. “Many of them work beyond 40 hours a week and invest hundreds and thousands of dollars of their own treasure to spread the word. They are driven by their love for America and their posterity and are the fulfillment of Reagan’s famous question: ‘If not us, then who?’”

From state fairs to grocery stores, the grassroots are constantly on the lookout for new ways to reach the public. And therein lies a secondary goal of collecting petition signatures: spreading hope.

Millions of Americans sense that the federal government is out of hand, but they don’t know what to do about it. This contributes to a feeling of powerlessness. Hearing about COS is exactly the message of empowerment and encouragement that can inspire them to get involved. To learn that other like-minded patriots are already involved in a project to bring power back to the people is often the catalyst that transforms hopeless spectators into champions in the fight. Those who volunteer their time with the grassroots have seen this play out countless times.

“The Convention of States message was one of hope for the future of America,” said Iowa State Director Karen Schuster after her team collected over 4,000 petitions at the Iowa State Fair last year. Thanks to leaders like Mrs. Schuster, conservative states are at the forefront of this effort, with hundreds of thousands of petitions pouring in from places like Florida, Texas, and the Hawkeye State.

But the "red states" certainly aren't alone.

Earlier this year, the Hawaii team amassed 356 petitions at what State Director Mark White called “our best Gun Show ever.”

“Time cannot be wasted when you’re on a mission to save the country, and [the COS team in Hawaii] clearly understands this,” remarked Grassroots Coordinator Brett Kulbis about a previous show.

And Hawaii isn’t the only “blue state” to contribute huge numbers to our overall tally of petition signers. In 2024, for example, Maine set the goal of surpassing 16,000 petitions by the end of the year; they hit 17,000 before the year ended. Massachusetts, the 2024 State Team of the Year, closed in on 30,000 petitions after participating in several petition-signing blasts, including multiple block-walking events.

All around the country, the grassroots continue to chase petition signatures. For them, it’s not about bragging about a number. It’s about making a real difference in the historic fight to save liberty. In that fight, 2.7 million petitions equal 2.7 million legislative impacts, 2.7 million patriots inspired. And that's what really matters.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
