There is nothing more grassroots, more all-American, than a state fair. The fair offers a fun time to enjoy interesting attractions and unique new products while racking up steps with friends and family.
COS volunteers use this opportunity to reach out to citizens who have never heard of Article V or the Convention of States, and sadly there are many. Our mission is to build an army of informed citizens and this is a great way to reach people who otherwise avoid political engagement.
Richard and Nancy Simo (left) serve as the dedicated anchors who provide a well-stocked arsenal of materials and a vivid display. Gary and Tera Coull not only man the COS booth but also reduce commuting time for the Simos by sharing their on-site motorhome. What generous team work!
Tom Swan, Cynthia Kisby, Chuck Connolly, David Peterson, Raymond Aldridge, and Michael Sanderson are only a few who work hard to engage passersby and secure signatures on COS petitions. Kelly Robbins, a most enthusiastic petition-collector offers these observations:
So far, the best way to overcome objections is simply my holding the Pocket Constitution, open to page 15, and explaining to passersby that we are going to use the Constitution to save the Constitution, specifically Article 5.
Sometimes all it takes is a little carnival barking of “Term Limits Now” a big smile, and eye contact, and people will hear what you have to say.
I enjoy teaching people about our group in this way. I especially loved using Richard’s props, such as the page of “Passed States & Dates” and the COS platform of 3. I used those props with nearly everyone I spoke to.
A historical delight on Friday the 17th will be Lou Magill channeling James Madison and directing attendees to the COS booth #927.
The Florida State Fair in Hillsborough County runs from February 9th through 20th which is quite a lot of time to cover the storefront. This effort is rewarding and the fair is entertaining. Volunteers can sign up here. Visitors can purchase tickets online.
Take this opportunity to learn more about COS and Article V so that you can inform friends and neighbors about a solution as big as the problem. Term limits, fiscal restraint, and limited federal interference have wide support when seen outside of political party bias.
Do more than vote! Join a team that is working to save the America our Founders envisioned.
