It's as laughable as it is predictable.
Some of the most strident opponents of calling a limited-purpose Article V convention to discuss and propose amendments to the Constitution to limit the power of government constantly issue dire warnings in any forum they can find that such a convention -- as if it could -- will gut the Second Amendment.
No self-defense for you!
If that's so, it might seem strange that Convention of States will have a booth and be prominently represented at this week's National Rifle Association's Annual Meeting & Exhibits in Atlanta.
Either the folks at the NRA are very forgiving, or they know that what the aforementioned Chicken Littles spew is complete nonsense.
The NRA Annual Meeting & Exhibits takes place April 24-27, 2025, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The 14-acre exhibit hall is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
COS will be represented in the exhibit hall with two booths at space #5024. Convention of States Chief Grassroots Coordinator Mike Ruthenberg will be heading up the COS delegation of national staff and volunteers.
In the midst of making connections and spreading the word about COS, they will embark on the ambitious but obtainable goal of adding 1,000 petition signers during the event.
In addition to the COS booth, there will be -- among the many activities -- seminars, a concert featuring country music band Big & Rich, and the National Prayer Breakfast with remarks by television and film actor, producer, and director Kevin Sorbo.
If you are interested in attending, you can register for the Annual Meeting & Exhibits by clicking here. Registration is free for NRA members.
The inclusion of COS at this event will be a golden opportunity to meet with like-minded individuals and groups who work to advance self-governance and to spread the word about why it is necessary to call an Article V convention to limit the power of the federal government, and to protect and advance your constitutional rights -- which include the right to self-defense.
The NRA's gracious invitation to COS should put to rest any talk of an Article V convention eviscerating the Constitution in general and the Second Amendment in particular. Everyone at COS is looking forward to this spectacular event. We hope to see you there if you are able to attend!
