Co-Founder Mike Farris: "Here's why I helped start the Convention of States Project"

Constitutional attorney Mike Farris was one of the original co-founders of the Convention of States Project. Together with Mark Meckler, he helped grow the Project from a small group of dedicated patriots to the nationwide grassroots movement it is today.

Mike is now working as the President, CEO, and General Counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, but he took a few moments from his busy schedule to remotely address the Convention of States leaders at the 2019 Leadership Summit. 

"I believe the structure the Founding Fathers gave us is absolutely essential to our freedom. That structure requires a real set of checks and balances," he explained.

"The bigger the government, the less liberty you have. The swamp of Washington, D.C., has been getting swampier and swampier for a very long time. The federal government has no real checks and balances that are operational right now."

The solution, as Mike explains in the video below, is the Founders' tool to limit federal power -- a Convention of States.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention.
