Biden's botched Afghan withdrawal just got worse

Published in Blog on August 30, 2023 by Jakob Fay

Did anyone expect America to have a "Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Climate" or a "Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Environment & Energy Resilience" (and if you can decipher what those titles mean, please share!)? Well, it turns out we do. And what's even more surprising, while U.S. troops were facing a chaotic and bloody withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, these two Pentagon officials were hard at work… hashing out a climate change initiative.

According to James Fitzpatrick, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, recently uncovered Pentagon emails reveal that during the tumultuous withdrawal from Kabul under the Biden Administration, Department of Defense officials were rushing to finalize a military "climate adaptation plan" in coordination with the White House.

“While the Biden Administration was in the middle of a disastrous and deadly Afghanistan withdrawal, our top military leaders were being hounded by DoD climate activists to fast track a plan to transform the Department by forcing politically charged climate change discussions into every decision the DoD makes,” Fitzpatrick told The Daily Wire.

Allegedly, the Pentagon has confirmed that the mentioned officials, along with Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, were in the process of finalizing their climate document even during the military crisis. The emails, reviewed by The Daily Wire, suggest that DoD personnel became frustrated due to the crisis's impact on the approval process of the climate plan.

“The frustration was not that the mission in Afghanistan had devolved into a full-fledged crisis,” The Daily Wire reported, “with people falling off planes as they departed the airport, nearly 200 murdered by terrorists as they flooded the airport in hopes of evacuation, and a botched military drone strike that killed civilians rather than terrorist targets. It was that [Secretary of Defense] Austin had failed to sign the climate plan.”

Less than two weeks after the crisis, Austin would eventually sign the document, which can be seen here.

The Biden Admin’s Afghanistan failure has already been roundly criticized. This latest revelation only further exposes our federal government’s out-of-touch priorities. Even as our troops bled and died on foreign soil, the Department of Defense seemed more preoccupied with addressing the "national security risk posed by climate change."

How sick. How truly, truly sick.

If you’ve had enough of Washington’s gross disregard for the American people, sign the Convention of States petition below, and together, let’s use the Constitution to rein in the federal government.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
