Bernie Sanders rolled out his version of the Green New Deal, and it's just as bad as it sounds

Published in Blog on August 23, 2019 by Article V Patriot

It seems like after Green New Deal proponents admitted to wanting to take over the entire economy, they haven't even been trying to hide their real agenda.

Senator Bernie Sanders unrolled his version of the Green New Deal this week, and it's just as bad as it sounds.

The program will cost American taxpayers a whopping $16.3 trillion, and it will affect everything from homes to transportation to jobs. Here's how the Sanders team described it:

“As president, Bernie Sanders will launch the decade of the Green New Deal, a ten-year, nationwide mobilization centered around justice and equity during which climate change will be factored into virtually every area of policy, from immigration to trade to foreign policy and beyond.”

Sanders further vowed to "generate the political will necessary for a wholesale transformation of our society” but assured voters that the plan would "pay for itself."

We aren't holding our breath.

The plan also promises to, according to analysis from Fox News:

  • Reach 100 percent renewable energy by 2030 and decarbonization by 2050.
  • End unemployment.
  • Provide free high-speed internet.
  • Weatherize homes.
  • Build new public transportation.
  • Rebuild infrastructure.
  • Revise Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" program.
  • Support the "climate justice movement."
  • Advance social, racial, and economic justice, including redressing the exclusion of black, brown, Native American and other vulnerable communities.

Sanders' plan would, in short, require the wholesale transformation of the American economy through a massive federal government takeover of everything from private industry to household decisions.

Some Americans might be fooled by pie-in-the-sky promises, but the majority of Americans want to make their own decisions. Sanders' plan would destroy the right to self-governance we've cherished since our country's founding, and replace it with big-government bureaucrats doing "what's best" for the American people.

If you're worried about the rise of big-government socialism in the United States, then you should check out the Convention of States Project.

An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. This strategy doesn't rely on the next midterm or presidential election to secure freedom for future generations. It would permanently, effectively, and safely limit federal power and restore our right to self-governance.

Sanders and other big-government proponents might believe the American people will trade their freedom for "safety" and free stuff. But the millions of Americans who have joined the Convention of States movement tell a different story.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
