Troubling: 4 in 10 Americans embrace socialism

Published in Blog on May 21, 2019 by Article V Patriot

A new poll from Gallup spells trouble for the future of our country.

According to the survey, more than 4 in 10 Americans favor some form of socialism. That represents an eighteen-point increase since 1942, when only 25 percent viewed socialism as a "good thing."

But there's evidence to suggest that the American people, far from abandoning their independent mindset, have been duped by federal politicians.

Gallup also found that many Americans don't actually understand what socialism is. According to previous research, nearly 25 percent of Americans associate "socialism" with "social equality," while only 17 percent understand the true goal of socialism -- government takeover of the economy.

Much of this misunderstanding is certainly driven by federal politicians who promise free college, free healthcare, and universal basic income, but fail to mention the costs of these programs. Funding massive expansions of social welfare programs will require more than just taxes on the rich. The federal government will have to take over the entire American economy, transforming our citizens from independent, self-governing individuals to government-dependent serfs.

We know Americans don't actually support socialist systems by their responses to Gallup's questions regarding specific economic sectors. Americans would prefer the government to control only two areas -- online privacy and the environment. All other areas -- from healthcare to higher education to technology -- should be controlled by the free market, according to majorities of Americans.

Our "leaders" in Washington have pulled the wool over the eyes of many Americans. These politicians are pushing their big-government agenda in the guise of "social equality," and they're hoping to get their policies passed before the American people realize their mistake.

We can fight these policies in Congress and in the court of public opinion, certainly, but we should also be working to ensure that big-government, socialist ideology never even gets the chance to be considered.

An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that clearly and explicitly limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can clarify the vision of the Founders and prohibit the feds from taking over industries like healthcare and technology.

Millions of liberty-loving Americans have already joined the fight to stop socialism in its tracks. If you want to get involved, sign the Petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
