What does a hearing on Capitol Hill have to do with a hurricane 1,000 miles away in Florida?
There’s no right answer, because the two don’t correlate. However, what is a correlation between both is the media.
National attention quickly pivoted to Hurricane Ian today as it coursed directly toward the western side of Florida. The Category 4 storm has just made landfall and is getting in the way of D.C. politics. The natural disaster is taking the spotlight off of the staged production that was planned to occur in Washington today.
National attention was supposed to be directed towards Pelosi's Jan. 6 panel for the final public hearing on Wednesday. They planned to reveal new information surrounding their investigation. Unfortunately, for news outlets and politicians alike, the story of the day took a turn south.
“In light of Hurricane Ian bearing down on parts of Florida, we have decided to postpone tomorrow’s proceedings,” Thompson and Cheney said in a joint statement. “We’re praying for the safety of all those in the storm’s path. The Select Committee’s investigation goes forward and we will soon announce a date for the postponed proceedings.”
We’re still trying to figure out why the proceedings were forced to be postponed. Maybe Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, Vice Chair Liz Cheney and Nancy Pelosi are heading down to Florida to help DeSantis in the coming recovery efforts?
Even The Washington Post said the final hearing "seeks to recapture the nation’s attention" and "follows eight highly produced, news-making hearings..."
The unproductive and wasteful government has revealed where its priorities lie – media attention. Furthermore, the delayed hearing allows for more dramatic revelations to be publicized closer to the midterm elections.
The committee has cost taxpayers over $3.3 million this year for a panel of just nine representatives. It may be “the most expansive investigation in congressional history,” Punchbowl reports.
Our government is full of crooks that succeed only when a strategically placed narrative is pounded into the minds of Americans. Without the media, this narrative cannot be concocted.
It just reinforces the need for a Convention of States. Disingenuous politicians shouldn’t be allowed to keep running the show and playing with We the People like we’re puppets.
We have brains, critical thinking skills and the ability to play offense through Article V. These same crooks are trying to concoct a narrative that a Convention of States is dangerous, because it’s dangerous to their power.
