Amid smoky east coast, AOC jumps at chance to reshape nation

Published in Blog on June 07, 2023 by Brianna Kraemer

Always waiting to take advantage of the current situation, D.C. politicians are jumping at the visual opportunity to call for the Green New Deal.

As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 100 million Americans were under air quality alerts due to wildfires in Canada. The smoky air is inundating New York City with an orange hue, as well as other major cities like Boston and Washington, D.C.

But in good political affairs, this is an opportunity to push an agenda.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez alarmed her Twitter followers of the climate emergency, offering her Green New Deal as the answer to wildfires that have existed on Earth for thousands of years.

"It bears repeating how unprepared we are for the climate crisis. We must adapt our food systems, energy grids, infrastructure, healthcare, etc ASAP to prepare for what’s to come and catch up to what is already here. #GreenNewDeal," she wrote

The premise is simple. We must accept the urgent need to alter what normalcy means, just as Americans were expected to do during the Covid health emergency.

AOC's alarming declaration foreshadows what's to come in America: government control over food, energy, health, and foundational aspects of our everyday life – dubbed as "infrastructure." Whether it's your lawnmower, gas stove, or lightbulbs, the government is consistently targeting individual, household items, all in the name of saving the planet. Only recently has our food system – particularly farmers – become the target of climate change as the lab-grown meat agenda has expanded.

When are the positive effects of banning our items and shrinking our freedoms disseminated, or proven, by Washington politicians?

We can count on never seeing that data.

Steps can always be taken to protect the environment, but Americans aren't going to sit back and allow authoritative heads living in major polluting cities to dictate every item that's acceptable to operate or consume.

At the age of 33 and with no term limits in place, we can expect AOC's Green New Deal push to continue during many natural disasters down the road.

Convention of States is an effort to force our government to back off. Using Article V of the Constitution, we will rein in the power of the federal government – and place term limits on members of Congress.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
