North Carolina COS gears up for the 2025 legislative session

Some may think that the election of Donald Trump solves our problems related to federal government overreach. It does not.

Our effort transcends any one election cycle. An Article V convention can be convened after 34 states pass the resolution. The convention can propose amendments on term limits for federal officials, impose fiscal restraints and reduce the power and scope of the federal government. It is one additional tool the founders gave us to check the power of the federal government.

The COS resolution, HJR 235, passed in the North Carolina House in March 2023.The Senate adjourned in 2024 without passing HJR 235. That means we have to start over in the 2025 legislative session with a new resolution. The COS resolution must be passed by both houses in a single legislative session.

What happened in the waning days of the 2024 legislative session was very disappointing to say the least. The grassroots are rightfully upset.

Up until the final voting session on December 2, 2024, Senate leadership was telling us that HJR 235 would be passed. But in an epic "bait-and-switch", they passed HJR 151, an entirely different Article V effort only focused on a congressional term limit amendment. It does nothing to rein in an out-of-control federal government. This article in the Carolina Journal provides the details of what happened and the position of the COS NC organization.

We believe that we will be successful early in the 2025 session that starts in February. We expect resolutions to be filed in both the House and the Senate in early February. Our expectation is that we will pass both bodies in the first couple months of the session. If not, that will determine our campaign strategy for the 2026 election cycle.

We must continue to focus on building and engaging the grassroots. This is a marathon, not a sprint. We cannot give up.

What can you do?

If you are already a petition signer, but want to become more involved, we need you to step up and become a volunteer activist. We also are in dire need of District Captains. Even if a district currently has a District Captain, you can help as a DC Team Member. No experience is necessary...just a desire to save our republican form of government and protect future generations.

If you have not signed the petition, that is the first step. Here is the link

We need your help. As John Q. Adams famously said: “Duty is ours, results are God’s”.

Physicians for COS

The diagnosis is clear.

We have a growing cancer today known as the Obamacare. As a result physicians are no longer free to practice medicine.

No profession feels the full force of the federal government more than physicians. The medical profession is the most highly regulated profession in the United States. The practice of medicine is controlled, taxed, and regulated to the point of being destroyed by the heavy hand of the federal government.

Physicians are told how to bill, how much to charge, and how to treat patients. They are mandated to use expensive electronic medical records. The federally enacted HIPPA (Health Information Privacy and Portability Act) makes the communication between physicians and atients burdensome, inefficient, and expensive. Every physician is required by federal mandate to register with the government to obtain an NPI (national provider identifier.) We are required by federal law to obtain and pay for a license to prescribe medication through the DEA, which is separate from our state licensure.

This heavy hand of government not only oversees the largest federal health bureaucracy ever created, but by extension reaches into every state, every city, and every small town to regulate how every licensed physician practices the art of medicine and how citizens obtain care.

The treatment is also clear.

The prescription for a cure was written into our constitution by our founders. Article V of our constitution allows for the states to call for a convention of states to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government through the proposal of constitutional amendments. Physicians should be the strongest supporters of this brilliantly-crafted states’ rights tool placed into our constitution by our founders.

I urge my fellow American physicians to join with me in supporting an Article V Convention of States to take back control of the practice of medicine. It’s the only way that we can return the practice of medicine back to the intimate relationship between a doctor and patient without interference by the heavy hand of a distant, national government.
