What it means to be a servant leader

Published in Blog on January 23, 2023 by Brianna Kraemer

As 2023 kicks off, Convention of States Action is highlighting our updated core values. Two values that go hand-in-hand are servant leadership and our commitment to meaningful results.

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader,” proclaimed John Quincy Adams.

We aim to be servant leaders who simultaneously produce meaningful results in our work. Servant leadership inspires individuals to make a positive difference in their communities. Leadership means guiding, encouraging, and teaching. It takes grit, patience, and passion to be an impactful leader.

Today leadership is absent from so many parts of our world, with many of our politicians being prime examples of poor leaders. The ability to find meaningful purpose in life comes from serving those around us. This idea is missing from our culture today as people are encouraged to seek instant gratification over all else.

To put it straight, our culture encourages self-centeredness. People long for temporary satisfaction that leaves them wondering why they aren’t fulfilled. That’s the opposite of a servant leader, one who puts others before themselves and makes a positive impact in the world.

At the heart of COSA's mission is leadership that not only inspires but also truly makes a difference. We promote this fundamental principle through training and mentorship opportunities. Servant Leadership teachings and readings are a significant part of the resources provided to every individual involved with the organization.

We aspire to produce a demonstrable impact on the restoration of America to its divinely inspired ideals. Through results, we confirm our important influence in revitalizing America to a nation of self-governance – a nation that thrives without overreaching demands and burdens from far-away voices in Washington.

You too can receive training in servant leadership while working to better the future of America. We are actively making history and our efforts will certainly have significant results when Washington is no longer able to dictate how Americans live their lives.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
