Instead of cursing the darkness, let’s light a candle!
The signing of our Constitution, “Constitution Day” is celebrated on September 17th each year.
Public Law 108-477, section 111 (b) says:
“Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17th of such year for the students served by the educational institution.” This was signed into Law December of 2004.
In 2014, FL Convention of States Leaders and Volunteers called on 40 public schools along the Treasure Coast (the county of Port St. Lucie). Only three schools knew what we were talking about and only one was doing something about it. Since then, we have gone into public and private schools each year to teach The Constitution on Sept. 17. A few years later, after steadily increasing our volunteers and classrooms, we now have over 20 teachers and 20 schools to go to in 2018.

In Florida, Celebrate Freedom Week is celebrated during the last full week of September. This year, that is September 24-28. Florida State Statute Title XLVIII, 1003.421 Each school should include the recitation of the Declaration of Independence.—
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”
Again, “the law” is on our side. Our schools should be teaching this. This is a FUN way to share your patriotism and reach out to the young people in your community!
