It’s been a wild week in the Wild West, but we haven’t slowed down yet!
The Wyoming Senate Judiciary Committee voted on Thursday to pass Senate Joint Resolution (SJR) 1 to call an Article V convention, joining the growing race to become the 20th state to endorse the movement. The committee stood with over 13,000 Wyoming supporters, voting unanimously in favor of the measure.
Convention of States Co-Founder and Senior Advisor Michael Farris shared the history behind why the Founders included the convention process in the Constitution and debunked the myth that the Constitution was adopted illegally.
“It’s important for all of us to defend the integrity of the Constitution of the United States,” he urged.
“Let’s just put our stake in the ground and join the 19 other states that have passed this application for the Framers’ most powerful, peaceful, legal, constitutional tool to restore meaningful and enduring limitations on the federal government,” encouraged Wyoming State Director Julie Baker.
This week has seen significant progress for COS across multiple states. The South Dakota Senate passed our resolution earlier this week, and the Montana House Business and Labor Committee will consider our application tomorrow. Additionally, Connecticut became the 50th state in history to file the resolution on Wednesday.
"This is a banner week for Convention of States," reacted Senior Vice President for Legislative Affairs Rita Peters.
Altogether, 19 states have passed our application, as the Equality State now enters the running for the 20th slot. We congratulate the Wyoming team for its many years of dedication and hard work to make today's hearing a success!
