Yesterday, the Convention of States resolution passed the Arkansas Senate in an overwhelming show of grassroots force, 19-13. The Arkansas Senate is the first legislative body in 2019 to pass the Convention of States resolution that calls for an Article V amendments convention to limit the time, money and power of the federal government, judiciary and bureaucracy.
After watching the entire Senate floor discussion, Mark Meckler, President and Co-founder of Convention of States said, “If you want to see genuine patriotism, and true statesmanship in action, I suggest that you watch the prime sponsor, Sen. Gary Stubblefield, deliver his remarks. When people say that today there are no Madison’s, Adams or Washington’s among us, I for one will point to Sen. Stubblefield as conclusive evidence that they are wrong.”
“Patriots in Arkansas—grassroots and legislators alike came together today to defend the Constitution and promote the right our Constitution guarantees to bring our power back home locally,” said Bud Cornwell, COS Arkansas State Director. “I am so proud to be working with so many freedom-loving volunteers.”
Today the Arkansas Senate made a bold statement in favor of a Constitutional restoration so badly needed in our nation. The resolution now moves on to the Arkansas House. Recent polling shows that the people of Arkansas, across party lines, support the Convention of States Resolution by a two thirds margin. It’s time for the Arkansas House to finish the business of their citizens and wrest the power away from Washington.
“I am counting on the incredible grassroots army in Arkansas to finish the job they have started, and to hold their Representatives accountable," explained Meckler. “When the Arkansas House passes the Convention of States Resolution, it will become state number thirteen to do so. There were thirteen original states when our Constitution was drafted… it’s time for Arkansas to make it thirteen who have called for this historic Convention of States.”
