Trump recaptures the White House

Published in Blog on November 05, 2024 by Jakob Fay

November 5 - After a four-year hiatus, former President Donald Trump will return to the White House, beating Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election.

According to multiple sources, Trump obtained the necessary votes to win early Wednesday morning, clinching several swing states, including North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. He will lead alongside his running mate, Senator J.D. Vance, a Convention of States supporter.

“This is a massive victory for democracy and freedom,” the president-elect declared in his victory speech early Wednesday morning. “Together, we’re going to unlock America’s glorious destiny. We’re going to achieve the most incredible future for our people.”

“We will make America safe, strong, prosperous, powerful, and free again,” he continued. “And I’m asking every citizen all across our land to join me in this noble and righteous endeavor.”

“It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us. It’s time to unite.”

What was supposed to be a close night quickly turned in Trump's favor with several early leads. Harris underperformed across multiple swing states, many of which were called for Trump earlier than anticipated.

Both Harris and President Joe Biden called Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him on his win, with Biden inviting Trump to the White House to prepare for the transfer of power.

“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign,” Harris said in her formal concession speech.

Trump’s victory will serve as a referendum against Joe Biden’s presidency, which included record-high inflation, failed immigration policy, and global tensions. Running against Biden until late July, when the 81-year-old president dropped out of the race due to concerns about his health, Trump held Harris to account for the administration’s many weaknesses and unpopular positions.

Dodging hot-button questions about abortion and media accusations of anti-democratic extremism, the former and now-incoming president focused on issues such as the economy and border security.

The day before the election, Trump
vowed to the American people to “seal the border and stop the migrant invasion,” “carry out the largest deportation operation in American history,” “end inflation, and make America affordable again.”

Trump encountered multiple historic obstacles to his return to the presidency, including two assassination attempts and 34 felony charges. Perceived as an unbeatable threat to the “Deep State,” his response to these challenges appeared to resonate with voters and bolster his image. The iconic photo of a bloodied Trump urging his supporters to “Fight, fight, fight” after an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania galvanized his third consecutive bid for the White House.

He also made history by becoming only the second president and the first since Grover Cleveland to win two non-consecutive elections. His second term will begin on January 20, 2025.

Trump will likely govern alongside many prominent figures, including Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Vivek Ramaswamy, and Elon Musk, who have expressed concerns about the size and scope of the federal government. This modern-day “team of rivals” has pledged to make Americans healthy again, address the excesses of the administrative state, and “get the government off your back and out of your pocketbook.”
