Time for a Dream

Published in Blog on January 28, 2025 by Bruce Brown

Do you have a dream? Like most of us, you probably have, or have had, several. The dreams you have, or had, probably depend on what stage of life you are in.

As a child, was your dream to be an astronaut? A ballerina? A pro football player? The next Taylor Swift? How would you achieve those dreams? As you got older, you realized that one of the most important components in achieving that dream was to put in the time to achieve it.

As time progressed, you probably ended up with more than one dream - career, family, other? But still, time (which you have precious little of) was probably a major component of all of thosedreams. At the end of this article, you will discover what the Challenger astronauts gave up to achieve the dream they had in common. A common dream for most of us is to achieve a better government. What are you prepared to give to achieve your dreams?

The focus of this article is on a “dream government.” What would a dream government look like? You choose - a secure border, ending runaway federal spending and taxes, reining in the unelected deep state of power hungry bureaucrats who really run this country, stopping the weaponization of the federal persecution system, reforming our energy policy that is dependent on our enemies, prohibiting a foreign policy of endless wars . . .?

Past administrations have failed to achieve the best outcome for many of these issues. We voting Americans have a seesaw relationship with who controls our federal government,  changing administrations by party every 8 years, occasionally 4, rarely 12. Have any of them come close to achieving your “dream government?” Isn’t it time for a real change, not just a change of parties?

Envisioning the danger of the runaway federal government of today, the Founders realized that a time might come when the only real remedy to save our country might be for the states themselves to initiate amending the Constitution. So they included a “fail safe” in the Constitution: Article V. Article V provides for the States, where the real power is supposed to lie in our Constitutional republic, to call a convention to amend the Constitution.

A nationwide effort to do so is by the organization known as the Convention of States (COS). COS provides such a remedy using Article V. For this to succeed and finally rein in the unfettered power of the federal government by returning it to more local control in the States, COS presents the same proposal to each state legislature that each one authorize sending delegates to a convention of states to consider amending the Constitution, limited to the three specific subjects: fiscal restraints, term limits, and restriction of the federal government’s
power and jurisdiction.

Proposed amendments to the Constitution agreed to in this convention of delegates appointed by state legislatures would then be sent to all fifty state legislatures for possible ratification as authorized in Article V. It’s important to note that each state authorizes its delegates to consider only amendments that fall within these three limited subject areas. So anything you hear about a“runaway convention” by opponents to such a convention would not be possible. To see what such a convention might look like, use this link.

To the Challenger Astronauts

The seven’s dream
To go higher than high

To ride that beam
To the top of the sky

To do one time
What few others can feel

To climb and climb
And make it all so real

To lift off land
Beyond the earthly shore

With dream in hand
You went to fly evermore

Your lives went high,
Became one with the sky

On the anniversary of the Challenger loss, we remember their courage. Challenger astronauts gave up the rest of the time in their lives pursuing their dream. Are you pursuing your dream government? What time are you willing to give to make sure your country’s dream stays alive? How would you suggest we achieve a dream government? Can you think of a better way than a convention of states?
