After last week's flurry of activity, this week's scheduled legislative activity is much lighter, but of no less importance.
In Maryland, the General Assembly's House Committee on Rules and Executive Nominations will hold a hearing today, March 4, at 1:00 p.m. EST to consider HB1202.
HB1202 is 34 Ready legislation, wherein state legislatures will be fully prepared and ready with guidelines and parameters in order to send delegates to a convention once 34 state legislatures pass a COS resolution and a convention is called.
The bill requires the Maryland General Assembly to appoint a delegation from Maryland to an Article V convention, in addition to providing for the membership of that delegation, the creation of an advisory committee, and setting the operations of the group.
The bill was cross-filed with SB1073, which was considered by the Maryland Senate Education, Energy, and the Environment Committee. You can watch compelling testimony from COS supporters during the hearing that took place this past Friday here.
In West Virginia, the legislature's Senate Education Committee is scheduled to hear testimony concerning HB 4313, the Parents' Bill of Rights.
The bill declares that the right of parents to direct the education and care of their children is fundamental, and that the state in any capacity may not infringe upon that right. The legislation was introduced by West Virginia delegate Jim Butler.
The hearing is scheduled for today, March 4.
