The President Elect Needs Our Help

Published in Blog on November 25, 2024 by John Green

We’ve had our election, and “we the people” have spoken. We want our country back. Exit polling shocked everyone. Concern about our democracy has become the top issue for voters. It even beat out concern about the economy.

Putting aside the issue that we’re a republic rather than a democracy, the American people are clearly concerned about the state of our self-governance. We’ve watched the federal government encroach on our rights with censorship, lawfare, religious discrimination, and unconstrained spending. On November 5th we said, “enough.”

Our new President enters office with a clear mandate: place the federal government back in service to us.

In March of 2023, Donald Trump published a 10-point plan to return power to the American people.

  1. On Day One, re-issue 2020 executive order restoring the president’s authority to fire rogue bureaucrats.
  2. Overhaul federal departments and agencies, firing all of the corrupt actors in our National Security and Intelligence apparatus.
  3. Fundamentally reform the FISA courts, ensuring that corruption is rooted out.
  4. Establish a Truth and Reconciliation Commission to declassify and publish all documents on Deep State spying, censorship, and abuses of power.
  5. Launch a major crackdown on government leakers who collude with the media to create false narratives, pressing criminal charges when appropriate.
  6. Make every Inspector General’s Office independent from the departments they oversee, so that they do not become protectors of the deep state.
  7. Establish an independent auditing system to continually monitor our intelligence agencies to ensure that they are not spying on our citizens or running disinformation campaigns against the American people.
  8. Continue Trump administration effort to move parts of the federal bureaucracy outside of the Washington Swamp, just like President Trump moved the Bureau of Land Management to Colorado.
  9. Ban federal bureaucrats from taking jobs at the companies they deal with and regulate, such as Big Pharma.
  10. Push for a constitutional amendment to impose term limits on members of Congress.

Some of those actions can be done by executive order, while others will require congressional action. But item number 10 is intended to make public office a position of service, rather than a lifetime career among the lobbyists and global power brokers; and it requires a constitutional amendment.

Unfortunately, the probability that our congressional “public servants” would vote for anything that will sunset their Washington D.C. lifetime career, is approximately zero.

But that doesn’t mean that Trump’s proposed amendment can’t be done. It just means that he’s going to need our help. He needs us to encourage our state legislatures to call for an Article V convention – which is a way for states to initiate the amendment process without the consent of Congress. That’s why both Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth, and Vice President Elect J.D. Vance have endorsed an Article V convention calling for

  • Term limits,
  • Fiscal responsibility, and
  • Restraint of government overreach.

If you’re remembering John F. Kennedy’s historic speech, and wondering, “What can I do for my country?” – it’s quite simple. Sign the petition calling for an Article V convention and encourage your state legislature to support it.
