The Endurance of Paul the Apostle

Published in Blog on September 09, 2022 by Rob McCarthy

In 1 Corinthians 11:23-27, it is said that Paul, compared to other apostles, “worked much harder for God, took more beatings, was dragged to more prisons, was flogged excessively multiple times even to the point of death, five times received 39 lashes, three times was beaten with rods, once stoned (even to the point of death), three times shipwrecked, for an entire night and day adrift in open sea, in many travels faced many dangerous situations – perilous rivers, robbers, and even (opposed by) his own people in the city, in the wilderness, in storms, spies posing as believers… Toiled through many sleepless nights, frequently deprived of food and water, left hungry and shivering out in the cold lacking proper clothing…”

The tenacity of Paul to fulfill the call of God on his life (Acts 26:17-19) should humble us and keep us faithful to what God has called us to do with our lives. Jesus never promised us it would be easy or trouble-free, Luke 17:1 and Acts 14:22, but he did promise he would be with us always! Matthew 28:19-20 and Hebrews 13:5.

So let us continue to “press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”, Philippians 3:14, regardless of the hardships along the way, considering what Paul went through and what Jesus endured in fulfilling his mission on the earth, Hebrews 12:1-3. We will not make room for failure by making excuses but let us succeed in what God has called us to do for “We are more than conquerors, we are good soldiers, and can do all things through Christ who gives us strength!” Romans 8:37, 2 Timothy 2:3, Philippians 4:13.

The government of these United States is “of the people, for the people and by the people”, therefore it is our responsibility and our calling to preserve it in this time of trouble. Even though opposition from the left is intense and at times even violent against the conservative Judeo-Christian values our nation was founded on, let us hold fast and not waiver just as Paul and Jesus did, till we have accomplished the task set before us-the preservation of our wonderful country for our children and our grandchildren.

“Through your faith, the mighty power of God constantly guards us until our full salvation is ready to be revealed in the last time. May the thought of this cause you to jump for joy, even though lately you’ve had to put up with the grief of many trials. But these only reveal the sterling core of your faith, which is far more valuable than gold that perishes, for even gold is refined by fire. Your authentic faith will result in even more praise, glory, and honor when Jesus the anointed One is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:5-7
