The American Gulag

Published in Blog on December 08, 2021 by Will T. Zwart

U.S. Constitution, Article IV, section 2, Clause 2: "The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States."

U.S. Constitution, Amendment V: "[No person] shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law."

U.S. Constitution, Amendment VI: "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial."

These basic Constitutional rights have been violated by our federal government, as, not for the first time, they have seized and incarcerated political prisoners.

On January 6th, 2021, the U.S. Congress gathered to certify the presidential election. Down the street, President Donald Trump was giving a speech to a large crowd who had gathered to protest what they called a stolen election. Many thousands, however, had already marched down to the Capitol building.

There are two conflicting reports on what occurred. Some say an angry mob of the president's supporters pushed past the barricades and D.C. police, stormed into the building itself, and began trashing the place. The Congressmen were hurried into emergency shelters, and several civilians and cops were killed or injured in the "attempted insurrection."

The other report claims that there was an insurrection, but that it was not carried out from without, but within. Members of the self-purported Marxist group ANTIFA, working hand-in-hand with the FBI and D.C. police, disguised themselves as Trump supporters, broke into the building, and framed members of the crowd.

Some even claim that D.C. police were attacking the crowd with tear gas and flash bombs, moving barriers, unlocking doors, and motioning people in, while the FBI withheld thousands of hours of footage of the event.

Regardless of what really happened, one thing is clear: Dozens of American citizens who were present on January 6th have been arrested, incarcerated, and brutally abused, have had their freedoms trodden on and their appeals denied.

Some of these individuals had their homes surrounded in the middle of the night, their doors broken down, and their families harassed by a large squad of FBI agents. They were placed in solitary confinement without possibility of parole, and with no little to no contact with the outside.

The conditions in this modern-day gulag are horrific, as seen in an excerpt from a letter by J6er Nathanial DeGrave:

"For the first 120 days in DC’s Gitmo, Jan 6ers experienced DAILY LOCKDOWNS for 23-24 HOURS before being allowed to leave our small 120 sq. ft cell. The PHYSICAL and MENTAL ANGUISH that results from this kind of SEVERE ISOLATION has caused many people to go on a RAPID mental decline.

We’ll probably have a lockdown upon the publishing of this letter. So I have already warned those I know in advance.

PRIVILEGED LEGAL DOCUMENTS have been CONFISCATED and gone missing from various cells, and HIGHLY SENSITIVE discovery (video evidence under attorney/client privilege) is watched by employees during our legal calls.

The EXTREME medical neglect in this facility has caused a variety of adverse illnesses and disease. Some show signs of scurvy. And some even have COVID like symptoms, but medical personnel have refused to treat it.

The harsh, unlivable conditions of our unit has caused health hazards that defy Department of Health regulations. And on at least five occasions, RAW SEWAGE has overflowed our unit, causing human fecal matter to flood the floors and rooms. That’s also in addition to the MOLD on cell walls, as well as the rusty pipes, and DIRTY WATER that flows from these sinks. White rags TURN BROWN when exposed to the water from our faucets.

Without commissary, people like myself are FORCED TO STARVE. I suffer from HEADACHES and NAUSEA on an almost REGULAR BASIS from the malnutrition and constant hunger I am subjected to. I have lost ALMOST 15 POUNDS since I’ve been detained.

Contact with the outside world, from legal visits to seeing loved ones is HIGHLY RESTRICTED. After in-person visits, legal or otherwise, we are forced to undergo humiliating STRIP SEARCHES, despite ALL visitors being thoroughly checked for contraband. If it’s a legal visit, we are placed in a 14 day quarantine, with no out of cell time; EVEN IF your attorney is VACCINATED and tests NEGATIVE for Covid. Visits with friends or family members, for unvaccinated inmates, are NEVER ALLOWED.

RELIGIOUS SERVICES, protected by the 1st amendment, are NOT provided to Jan 6ers. Neither are in-person classes or other activities available to the rest of the jail. An inmate named Ryan Samsel, instead attempted to organize his own bible study inside the pod, until he was viciously BEATEN and LEFT FOR DEAD by correctional officers.

Jan 6ers have been mocked, beaten and ridiculed by guards for singing the National Anthem. The Corrections Officers despise our politics and the love we have for this country. At one point, an officer even yelled “F**K AMERICA!”, and threatened to lock us down FOR A WEEK if we attempted to sing the National Anthem again."

Degrave's testimony about the squalid conditions are reinforced in an article by Politico

"A grim federal inspection of Washington, D.C.’s central jail has left hundreds of inmates, including about three dozen detained Jan. 6 defendants, in limbo this week, as city officials confront allegations of filthy conditions and inhumane treatment.

Officials are racing to transfer hundreds of inmates in the central jail to other facilities, including nearly 400 to a Pennsylvania prison, following the U.S. Marshals Service report that described rampant abuses by guards, retaliation against prisoners, substandard food and unsanitary plumbing problems throughout the central jail."

Regardless of their innocence or as-yet-to-be-proven guilt, these American Citizens have the right to due process under the Constitution. But our federal government doesn't care. They have trampled on their (and by extension our) God-given rights, and held these people in an iron, Communist grip, trumping up charges and brutalizing them illegally.

This isn't the first time the federal government has breached due process. Abraham Lincoln suspended habeas corpus regarding Maryland delegate John Merryman's incarceration, and Franklin Roosevelt's illegal imprisonment of hundreds of Americans of Japanese descent is infamous.

It is time to use our last tool of freedom, and call an Article V Convention of States, where an Amendment could be passed to dissolve much of the corrupt local bureaucracy in Washington D.C., restoring it to what the Founders intended: a small section of land meant to house the three branches of the U.S. government, not to be a whole city set apart from the rest of the country, where the Swamp can wield its power unchecked and unchallenged.

Holding American Citizens as political prisoners is INTOLERABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE TYRANNY.
