Tennessee Governor Bill Lee is preparing to equip all schools in the state with armed guards in the wake of last week’s school shooting that resulted in six deaths.
Gov. Lee is set on taking legitimate action to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again. The governor’s plan, which is set to become public this week, would allocate millions of dollars to new school security measures at both public and private schools.
While the program could require private schools to hire security guards with the same level of training as public school requirements, it cannot demand private schools adhere to the armed security measure.
Funding will also provide additional mental health support through school-based behavioral health liaisons, which has seen a "five-fold" funding increase in recent years, The Tennessean reports.
"We have an obligation, I have an obligation, to do what I can and work together with leaders across this community to address people's concerns and to protect our kids in whatever way we can,” said Gov. Lee.
The proposal will need the state legislature's approval, which will likely support increasing armed security with its predominately Republican makeup.
Exercising state power, as recently seen in Iowa, is the way our local governments can counter the abuses of the federal government.

No matter if it's California, Florida, or anywhere in between, the people can better rely on representation from their regional leaders rather than far away D.C. bureaucrats.
Convention of States is working to diminish the force of the federal government and return the power to state governments, where it was always intended to be.
