The new position of Event Coordinator attracted an excellent applicant, Bonnie Corbett! How fortunate we are. She thought up a great BIG event for the Sunshine State. I have watched over the past few months as this event was in the making, and it was professional, fun and exciting to be a part of it. Her dedication, engagement and participation are encouraging to all of us.
This event was so big she coordinated use of the Civic Center in Port St Lucie, FL. Bonnie attracted 17 volunteers from across the state and 50 vendors. There were seven rib contestants and 10 cooks for a chili cookoff as well as a car show.
This opportunity attracted thousands of people which resulted in reaching out to the community to promote the Convention of States. About 70 petition signors and 10 volunteer sign ups are the results of this effort. Richard Miller said, "Wow, it looks like it was a big success."
The event was also an opportunity for current volunteers to come out and meet the
team and work together to bring fun in the sun to the community. We had the chance to meet Michael Tranchina, the Chief Technology Officer for Convention of States.
Why Join us? "I feel this is the best way to engage as a citizen and learn about our constitutional republic, legislators, voting and issues within my community." -Nancy Suits, State Communications Coordinator for COS Florida. Click here to listen to an introduction to our project
Fun Dance Teams came out to perform their moves: Wild Roses Line Dancing and True Crew.
A really cool Karate Demonstration by LaSalla DoJo drew a BIG crowd to watch them break concrete blocks, bricks and boards.
