Florida team caps off 2018 at star-studded Student Action Summit

Published in Blog on January 04, 2019 by Nancy Suits

Convention of States Florida's communications team attended the Turning Point 2018 Student Action Summit in West Palm Beach to report on the event (Dec 19-22).

It's the largest gathering of young conservatives attracted by a huge lineup of radio and television celebrities.

Quote from Mark Canup, FL State Director for Turning Point:

“TPUSA’s student action summit is the culmination of all the hard work that our student activists have put in for the whole year! Over 4,000 young student activists come down to sunny Florida to hear many of the top speakers in the conservative movement and meet fellow liberty loving students! The advice and lessons that are gained at this conference will help many of our activists next semester as we continue to fight for liberty on college campuses”

The great lineup of celebrity speakers attracted students from all over the country. The speakers included many of our current endorsers including Pete Hegseth, Fox News. Pete was kind and spent some time with our small team. The Turning Point Founder Charlie Kirk was leading the event. Other COS SuperStars were on deck including Mark Levin, Dennis Prager, FL Gov Ron DeSantis and Project Veritas, James O'Keefe. The celebrity line up of speakers continued with so many its hard to name them all. (Don Trump Jr, Tucker Carlson, Dinesh D'Souza, Greg Gutfeld, and Kimberly Guilfoyle).

Four days of back-to-back Liberty Voices fueled the students with hope and inspiration. As journalists, we sought opportunities to speak to them and created a podcast from all the interviews.

Other journalists attending reported they also seek chance meet-ups and are just "ready for anything." You might find a celebrity having a cup of coffee or walking through the convention center to take that moment and be bold. We found this to be a learning experience and have many stories to tell through future blog posts, podcasts, and short stories.

While the media ignores reporting on this super-charged event (one local TV station van was parked out front who basically did nothing to report on it), the media outlets inside the event were more than eager on messaging. We spent time talking to the crew and reporters from CRTV and The Washington Examiner.

Pete Hegseth, FOXNews and Keith Bessette, COS

We had a blast talking to the students and organizations all in search of liberty, upholding the Constitution, and building the strength needed for the future growth of leaders across the USA. The Comms Team looks forward to being a little better prepared next year.

We engaged interviews with a few of the students, getting their name and college and city. They were interested in learning more about Convention of States. They seemed well-spoken, curious, articulate and informed on issues of the day, history, the problems they see and were open to ideas on how to regain liberty for the future.

The team present included Nancy Suits (State Comms Coordinator), Ed Vidal (Radio Host and Legislative Liaison), Keith Bessette (Content Writer and Podcast Host), and Tom Miller (District Captain).

The team sought opportunities to interview, took pictures, and found hope from attendees. We invite you to join the team in Florida or in your state to reach our goal of 30 million.
