Information and Petition Signing Event in Sewell, NJ
On Saturday, August 28, we had an information and petition signing event at the Fellowship Bible Church in Sewell, New Jersey. This event was hosted by the Biblical Citizens Group of SJ.
Our Regional Captain, Jim Collinsworth gave a Convention of States presentation and answered questions. Many of the attendees had participated in the Patriot Academy Biblical Citizenship class and there was a lot of interest in the Convention of States and Article 5. There were many questions and conversations among the attendees and a lot of interest in volunteering for the Convention of States.
These events are a great way for volunteers to come and meet other COS volunteers and talk about the Convention of States. They are fun, interactive and we all learn something new every time we come out. At this event, 48 people attended and we obtained approximately 20 petition signatures. Many thanks to the Biblical Citizens Group of SJ for putting this event together.
Defending a Convention of States
I joined the Convention of States (COS) organization in March of 2021. It was exciting to find a solution to what is happening in our country that is lawful, violence-free, and follows the U.S. Constitution.
Since joining, I have spoken about the COS organization to family and friends, and I have been to several petition signing events where I heard questions that include:
- I heard we can have a runaway convention. Is that true?
- What if Congress refuses to hold a Convention of States after the resolution passes in 34 states?
- Why should I sign this? Things will never change.
These questions made me realize I am confident that I am doing the right thing by taking action for something I believe in, even if the outcome is not certain. For my middle and right-leaning friends, I see they are angry and do not trust our representatives and Government. For my left-leaning friends, I see they are angry and do not understand where I am coming from on who I vote for, what my liberties are, and whether this country needs to be saved.
There is emotion on both sides. Everyone has an opinion. Everyone believes they are right.
At June’s COSfest, Mark Meckler told us we would need to make sacrifices. These sacrifices include standing up for what you believe in with people you love who may not agree with you. Mark’s talk resonated with me as I have lost a few friends and family members over the last few years.
So, what do I do?
- I work to stay healthy. I pray and meditate. Use whatever works for you.
- I work very hard to remain calm when discussing controversial topics. I avoid conflict as much as I can. But I do stand up for myself when I need to.
- I stay informed and educated.
- I take breaks from the news and stressful discussions.
- I have friends that are like-minded and stay in touch with them.
I stay educated and knowledgeable about current events. Reading and watching videos on COS is constant for me. Many of our news shows, print media, and social media are opinions, not news. I watch the news from a reputable source, and I verify stories that I read on Twitter. Knowledge is one of the most valuable tools I have.
The COS organization has excellent education resources to teach you about Article 5 of the U.S. Constitution, how to talk to people about the Convention of States, and answer questions:
- COS University: includes training for volunteer positions, and questions and answers on responding to the opposition.
- Article 5 Pocket Guides and other literature that can be read online and printed.
- YouTube and Rumble videos.
Most of the time, the news is negative and can bring me down. While I want to remain current and be knowledgeable about what is going on, there are times when I need a break. I watch Hallmark movies. Yes, that is my guilty pleasure. Do something that makes you happy and takes your mind off the news of the day.
Convention of States is an organization of people that are patriots and believe calling a Convention of States will save our country. If you want to fight for a cause and country you believe in, if you want to be around like-minded volunteers, please join the Convention of States organization.
Answers to the Questions above:
- I heard we can have a runaway convention. Is that true? No. There are checks and balances in place. There are limitations on what will be discussed, term limits, fiscal restraint, and federal overreach. Any proposed amendments must be ratified by three quarters (38) of the states.
- What if Congress refuses to hold a Convention of States after the resolution passes in 34 states? If Congress does not call a Convention of States, the states can call their own convention.
- Why should I sign this? Things will never change. You are right. Things will not change if we do not do anything. They will change if we stand up for ourselves and take positive action. This movement is growing every day. Join us and make a difference. Be with like-minded people to help save our country.
Prayer Warrior Volunteer
The Prayer Warriors Team consists of people of many faiths who believe our fight is more than political, it is also spiritual. With a spiritual war being waged against the American people and our nation, prayer is a valuable ally in our fight.
At the beginning of the month, a Prayer Warrior receives a Prayer Guide. This document consists of a daily guide of prayer and there is additional inspiration and guidance for the month. We pray for our country, Convention of States specific activities or people, and other events or people in our country. There is a monthly meeting where everyone comes together in prayer.
Praying every day is motivational and uplifting. It allows you to have a positive focus during the day. You can spend whatever time you have to pray. Please think about joining this wonderful group of people.
Volunteer Corner – profile of a volunteer in Districts 1-8
Michael Osowiecki is the District Captain for District 6. Michael signed the petition in late 2018 after hearing about the Convention of States through Mark Levin, Ben Shapiro, and Sean Hannity. He has been a District Captain for District 6 since January 2019.
District 6 is heavily democratic, and it has been difficult to bring on volunteers and obtain petition signatures. He currently has 2 active volunteers. His goal for District 6 is to build his team of volunteers and obtain more petition signatures by having petition drives, reaching out to conservative organizations and Reagan Democrats.
On a personal note, Michael has been part of the Mummers organization for many years. They have a New Year’s parade in Philadelphia every year and spend much of the year preparing for it. Their mission is to bring joy to people through music and dance and they do this through skill and training, but more importantly, teamwork, camaraderie, and friendship.
Michael has been a conservative and patriot his entire life. He loves this country and feels that the Convention of States is the solution to save it.
