Seeking truth… a new path forward

Published in Blog on April 24, 2025 by Kim English, Convention of States Ohio

In today’s world, wisdom and discernment are superpowers. So much media bombards our minds everyday that it becomes difficult to sift through and get to the truth. As Americans, we all desire to feel safe and confident in our leaders. However, in recent years that confidence has been fractured and people are now in search of a fundamental solid ground.

The federal government in particular, while spouting rhetoric about the “best interests” of the people, are actually forming policy that benefits their self-serving interests. For some this sounds ridiculous and it conflicts with the core beliefs they have had their whole lives that our country values freedom and individual freedom, and not big government. Unfortunately, accepting status quo only allows the government to keep perpetuating their agenda.

In order to swing the pendulum back to the future well-being of the people, our individual states must step up on our behalf by returning to the foundations of federalism.

What is federalism you wonder? It’s a term that dates back to colonial times when our country was founded. It refers to the sharing of powers between the federal and state governments. As it stands now, the states have lost some of this sovereignty to the power of a massive federal government. So individual states have lost their voice in matters of education of our children, healthcare for citizens, and local issues close to the people.

Real life examples of this include Hurricane Helene and the people of North Carolina after the devastating flooding. FEMA, an agency designed to provide federal assistance to citizens of natural disaster had previously allocated these funds to assist immigrants for food and housing.

This misappropriation left our very own citizens in dire circumstances, leaving relief efforts to be supplied by the generosity of non-profits and churches. It stands to say that the federal agency was not a “good steward” of the emergency funds and those states where disaster struck the people suffered greatly.

Another example happened during the COVID pandemic when the CDC set health policy for our lives including quarantine and vaccine mandates that continues to impact our lives to this day. In this case, a federal agency overreached its power and did not adhere to the standard of vaccine testing and transparency regarding side-effects.

Many Americans lost jobs and some succumbed to the health risks associated with the vaccine. The power these agencies wielded during this time could have been challenged more effectively if states had been more empowered.

Now that our eyes have been opened and the blinders are off, the question remains. What do we do with these newfound truths?

The Founders of this great nation were smart enough to provide us a tool within the Constitution called Article V. Under this provision, state legislatures can vote to unite and call a convention of states.

In fact, this provision was made for such a time as this. The central government is too powerful and the bureaucracies within the federal government are over-reaching through their policies. Many of those in power have been there too long to desire the necessary changes.

Fellow Americans, let us join together and challenge the status quo, reach into the toolbox, and utilize Article V as our collective superpower! Let's restore federalism by forging a new path forward for America and its people by supporting efforts to call the very first Article V state amending convention to propose amendments.
