The final State Content Writers Lunch and Learn for 2024 wrapped in fine fashion on November 19.
We closed out with a vibrant discussion about the opportunities that the recent elections and COS-endorsing and supporting appointees bring for SCWs, in addition to various subjects that our great writers can highlight in 2025.
In case you missed this session, you can check out the live action replay -- co-hosted by national staff writer Jake Fay and your humble correspondent -- by clicking here.
We opened by examining why it is important to address what might be termed complacency-avoidance in the wake of the excitement generated by COS rapidly moving into the national conversation. It's human nature to let up a bit, particularly when so many people who support COS are moving into places of real power in Washington.
We alluded to the fact that there have been questions from COS volunteers on social media about whether the President-elect can merely call for an Article V convention upon his inauguration.
This presents an opportunity for SCWs to remind the grassroots about the fundamental aspects and mechanics of Article V that involve the states -- certainly not the federal executive branch -- in passing COS resolutions; using the Constitution to save the Constitution.
This will be particularly important in anticipation of the significant number of petition signers and volunteers coming aboard as COS gains even more traction nationally.
We also examined various aspects of the involvement of the grassroots in state legislation, highlighting the work of the grassroots, and being creative in our blogs. Examples of articles that have appeared on the COS site were shared in these areas:
- State and Local Issues/F3 Legislation such as gerrymandering in Ohio and parental rights legislation in Tennessee
- Legislative Relationships that are forged by grassroots heroes who schedule formal meetings and take opportunities when they arise
- Getting creative in the form of inspiration from literature, poetry, and even news items that can be tied to the history of our republic and the Article V movement.
We had tremendous engagement, questions, and suggestions from the SCWs who joined the call. Again, to watch the recording of the November Lunch and Learn, click here.
We hope that you have found the Lunch and Learn sessions to be informative and useful as you continue to lend your tremendous writing talents to the movement to call an Article V convention.
Jake and I are ever grateful for your contributions and stand ready to assist you in whatever way we can.
Thank you for all that you do. We wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas season, and will see you in January!
