Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar isn't a stranger to Washington corruption. Just last month, she found herself in hot water after it was discovered that she paid her husband's consulting firm $2.8 million dollars during her last campaign.
Now she's in the news again after a Fox News report uncovered the hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars received by the same company that her husband co-owns.
"Public records show that E Street Group, co-owned by Omar’s husband, Tim Mynett, received nearly $135,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans and $500,000 in Economic Injury Disaster loans," according to the outlet.
E Street Group is hardly the mom-and-pop small business that the COVID aid bill was supposed to help. It's a big "consulting" firm in D.C. that apparently knows how to take advantage of its connections. While thousands of businesses were unable to get COVID aid, Omar appears to have used her connections to ensure her husband's company received money from the American taxpayers.
If you're tired of this kind of corruption, you've come to the right place. Our federal officials aren't scared of elections -- incumbents nearly always win, and if they lose, they can use their connections to land a big-money job as a lobbyist. They aren't scared of a new president, either. They'll continue using their position to enrich themselves, no matter who sits in the White House.
But they should be afraid of We the People calling a Convention of States. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government, meaning that federal officials will have less power to leverage into big bank accounts. These amendments can also impose term limits on federal officials (meaning they'll have less time to enrich themselves in D.C.) and fiscal restraints on Congress (meaning our elected reps will have less money to send to their friends --or husbands -- at big businesses).
A Convention of States is the ultimate tool to drain The Swamp in D.C. Presidents, representatives, and judges can't or won't drain The Swamp. It's up to us, and we must call a Convention of States now before it's too late.
