The Federal Highway Administration spent $200,000 of our tax dollars on radio ads reminding us “to stop at a railroad crossing when a train is passing.”
The campaign was to build awareness among drivers who ignore safety traffic instructions and cause vehicle-train collisions.
Isn’t this common sense? Your five-year-old knows to stop for a passing train. Don't we all know not to cross the track when a train is passing? Apparently, the FHA thought that in 11 states, they needed radio announcements to remind drivers.
And, if the signs, railroad crossing gates, bells, and flashing lights cannot stop a driver from crossing the railroad, will $200,000 of radio ads do any better?
