One Nation Under God

Published in Blog on May 06, 2024 by Cynthia Kisby

"If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under."  Ronald Reagan

Most world religions preach love and compassion. The overarching Judeo-Christian message embedded in our origins is “love thy neighbor.”  In our history and founding, people emigrated to these shores to assimilate (which means to become one) and yes, to become one nation, to be free to believe what you want without threat of persecution.

America is enriched by a wealth of unique and diverse cultural habits, recipes, and traditions imported by newcomers. However, it is destructive to allow intruders to come here with a heart filled with hate and a desire to destroy. Anyone watching news of pro-Hamas terrorists chanting “death to Jews” should recognize this as completely un-American.

Now is not the time to sit blandly in front of the TV and lament the uninformed naivete of children and their related political unrest. It is necessary to stand up and speak for all that is good about this country before an illegitimate minority takes hold of what pundits like to call “the narrative.” The story of this country is freedom and progress that nurtures a strong and independent middle class.

Don't Be  A Crybaby - It’s too hard. It’s too complicated. I don’t know what to believe.

On a local level it is time to do a little painful study about your community politics. Make sure you know the beliefs and plans of your own city, county, and school board commissioners.

Start now to study amendments that will appear on the Florida ballot this fall. Know that the title wording is sometimes designed to mean the opposite of what you would think. The unintended consequences cannot be foreseen. If you read newspaper accounts of these amendments, make sure you consider the political leanings of the editors.

The very least you can do is talk to your elected representatives. Tell them what you see as good for the country and what you believe to be outside influence going against the best interest of your homeland. If you don’t want to visit or call, write them a short card or note.

Convention of States helps educate and activate citizens to protect one of the most treasured forms of government known to world history. Don't sit on the sidelines and let bad things happen. Join your neighbors at COS and do something!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
