A new think tank report has contradicted rosy accounts from presidential candidates and found that Medicare-for-all would increase the deficit by $15 trillion over the next ten years and would lead to "soaring demand" for health services.
Specifically, Avik Roy of the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity concluded that Senator Elizabeth Warren's proposed tax increases would raise significantly less than than she has predicted.
The result will be rising spending by the federal government and a lower standard of care for all Americans.
"The Warren plan does nothing to increase the supply of health care providers to keep pace with this soaring demand," Roy wrote, according to The Washington Free Beacon. "Again, those whose incomes or wealth are below the U.S. median will have the most difficulty accessing care in such an environment."
Currently, the federal deficit consistently approaches $1 trillion each year, and the federal government has added over $1 trillion to the national debt in the last nine months.
Adding $15 trillion over the next decade will more than double the deficit each year and consequently increase the national debt well beyond its current $23 trillion.
As we've often pointed out, the national debt represents an existential threat to our country. The economy is strong, but as the national debt begins to eclipse GDP, we risk a fiscal collapse that could destroy the futures of our children and grandchildren.
As expensive, big-government ideas like Medicare-for-all continue to gain popularity, its crucial to build firewalls against socialist policies and force Congress to adopt fiscally responsible policies.
Congress will never limit their own power. That's why an Article V Convention of States is so crucial. A Convention of States is called under Article V of the Constitution and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can both limit the power of the federal government and require Congress to balance the budget, cap spending, and limit taxation (among other things).
Over four million Americans have voiced their support, and fifteen states are on board. If you want to join the movement, sign the Convention of States Petition below!
