We're $33 trillion in debt, but no one in Washington wants to take a funding cut in order to obtain fiscal responsibility.
Missouri Rep. Eric Burlison recently endorsed the Convention of States movement as a means to bring fiscal and power restrictions to the federal government. This week he discussed Article V on COS Live with show host and Regional Director Andrew Lush.
As a freshman member of Congress, he recognized there is virtually no way Congress will ever implement meaningful reforms on itself. Emphasizing the urgency for fiscal responsibility, Burlison said we've hit an inflection point where we're spending more on national debt interest than any other item, including the military.
"That is a scary moment," he said. "I see a lot of spenders in Congress and not a lot of people that have fiscal restraint. So I strongly think the only way to fix D.C. is from the outside in with the states stepping up, and the states becoming the parent again."

Without prudent fiscal action, the Social Security fund could run dry in the next 10 years. When that happens, Americans' Social Security benefits will automatically be cut by 24%, which will be devastating to seniors in this nation.
While a federal balanced budget is critical, it will never come from the inside.
"I do not see a scenario where if Congress writes the proposal for a balanced budget amendment, that it's truly going to be an airtight, balanced budget amendment. It's more than likely going to have loopholes or provisions that Congress wants to see."
The government thrives off loopholes – not We the People. To avoid the sly roundabouts officials like to hide will require outside action. The states and the people must make the calls through an Article V convention.
"I want to return power back to the States," Burlison said.
We're doing that here at Convention of States, and you can contribute by signing the COS petition below.
