Are you tired of winning yet?
This week, we’ve seen Convention of States supporter JD Vance sworn in as the 50th vice president of the United States, the South Dakota Senate pass the COS resolution, and the Wyoming Senate Judiciary Committee vote unanimously to advance our application to the full Senate.
And today, Montanans turned out in droves to advocate for the passage of House Joint Resolution (HJR) 5, supporting the call for an Article V convention in the Montana House Business and Labor Committee.
After nearly three hours of testimony and debate, lawmakers adjourned without voting.
The Treasure State team delivered impressive, coordinated testimony covering various topics, including federal debt, government overreach, court packing, and censorship. They painted a dire picture of the country on the line but ultimately expressed hope that Article V could turn the tide.
“You have the power to stop this madness,” one proponent charged the committee. “Or you can continue to watch as the federal government’s fiscal irresponsibility leads to our collapse.”
The team systematically debunked opponents’ arguments, which they dismissed as groundless and fearful.
“Those who oppose an Article V convention oppose it out of fear - fear of a runaway convention or fear of getting rid of the Constitution altogether,” one supporter stated. “What I am afraid of is a [Department of Justice] that completely politicizes and acts on the behest of one party - a DOJ that would inspire and encourage prosecution of parents who disagree with what their children are being taught in public school.”
“As you know,” he added, “these are not imaginary fears. As we sit here and listen to our opponents fear-mongering about things that might happen, our Constitution is under assault.”
“The Framers put the second half of Article V in for a very specific purpose,” another activist argued. “It was another one of their brilliant checks and balances. It’s remarkable and unfortunate that we have not used it yet.”
Fortunately, thanks to Montanans and their incredible grassroots advocacy, we’re one step closer to utilizing this vital constitutional tool and saving America. We congratulate the Montana team for taking bold action against federal tyranny and eagerly anticipate an upcoming vote.
As Senator Tom McGillvray, a longtime COS champion, reminded the committee, “Unless the states push back through Article V, we will lose our nation…. Article V is the bastion of federalism.”
