Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy is 100% supportive of the Convention of States movement, he revealed on Mark Levin's radio show Tuesday night.
McCarthy launched a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden on Tuesday for allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption. When discussing the possibility of term limits and a balanced budget, Levin said there's no way Congress will ever vote to restrict itself, which is why the Convention of States movement is the one true solution.
"If you really support term limits and a balanced budget, you want to amend the Constitution, you're not going to get it through Congress," Levin contended. "It has to be Article V, the second method of amending the Constitution, correct?"
"Correct," McCarthy said. "It only takes 34 states to call the convention and 38 to ratify any amendments that are proposed."
Levin asked McCarthy if he is a supporter of Convention of States, to which he replied: "I support it 100%."
Listing today's current political hot topics including the New Mexico governor's attempt to invalidate the Second Amendment, McCarthy said, "This is why there's a big movement on the Article V for a convention."
The only way to shrink the federal government back to its intended size and power is through the states. Levin understands this reality as a long-time supporter of Convention of States. If Congress attempts to implement power-restricting amendments, they won't go anywhere. It's a showman vote.
"I'm one of the big movers and shakers, me and a handful of others. And we believe this very strongly," Levin added.
Other powerful endorsers of Convention of States include Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro, Sen. Rand Paul, and Sen. Marco Rubio. The movement seeks to gather the states together as authorized under Article V of the Constitution to rein in the federal government through constitutional amendments.
