Rep. Steven G. Xiarhos, who represents the 5th district in Massachusetts, has once again filed the COS resolution in the General Court of Massachusetts.
HD.727 is now in process in the 194th session of the General Court. It calls for "a convention of the states limited to proposing amendments to the Constitution of the United States that impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for its officials and for members of Congress."
The resolution will be assigned to a committee for consideration. Traditionally, the COS resolution in Massachusetts has been referred to the Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs. The COS resolution has been passed favorably by that committee in the previous two sessions of the General Court.
Team Massachusetts, which was the 2024 COS Team of the Year, will continue the work for which they were recognized by contacting their legislators to ask their support of HD.727, establishing productive and cooperative relationships with them, and working on testimony in preparation for a hearing on the resolution.
A date for that hearing has yet to be determined. If the past two sessions are any indicator, the team will be ready whenever called.
Congratulations to Rep. Xiarhos, a longtime supporter of an Article V convention, for filing HD.727 as the General Court commenced and good luck to the team as they embark on another historic quest.
