“We have 19 state legislatures that have voted resolutions for a Convention of States. With support, only, from you,” Mark Levin encouraged a crowd in Washington, D.C. last week.
Levin and his wife shared from the stage the hope resting in a Convention of States at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). At the same time, Levin was not optimistic about the promises made by politicians on that same stage the previous day.
“You’ve heard people… come up here and say, ‘I am going to defund the FBI, and the Interior Department,” Levin said. “No, they are not. They are not going to defund it. I promise you they are not going to defund any of it.”
His warnings ring true, with decades of conservative disappointment out of the White House and Congress, regardless of who gets elected.
Politicians come and go, but the installed system of government overreach never exits office.
Later in his speech, Levin remarks, “Wouldn’t it be nice, if we heard here at CPAC, at least one damn politician get up and say, ‘I encourage you to support Convention of States.’”
Remarkably, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy challenged his fellow candidates to do just that, following his personal endorsement of the Convention of States movement. While no other candidate has met this challenge, perhaps both Levin’s and Ramaswamy’s encouragement will enliven other candidates in the coming months.
What Levin continues to be optimistic about, however, is the American people.
“It's the grassroots… that’s what I am about, that’s why I come to CPAC. That’s why I don’t go to the Republican National Convention or RNC, I don’t care about any of that stuff. I am here with you.”
And what can the people do, but continue to dutifully call for an Article V Convention of States?
“Convention of States is the only constitutional way to get our country back, and it will get it back in fundamental ways. We use the Constitution to save the Constitution,” Levin promises.
“Washington is not going to fix Washington,” Levin predicts. “You are going to fix Washington through Convention of States, Article V.”
