Lansing Surge Day - A Learning Experience

Published in Blog on May 11, 2023 by Irv Karwick

I was proud to be a part of the dedicated group of COS Patriots in attendance at the second Lansing Surge event on May 9th. Joining Regional Captain Chet Grant and District Captain John Poelstra, our first stop was a meeting with new House District 48 Representative Jennifer Conlin. After exchanging pleasantries, we were surprised to hear she was not aware and had no knowledge of the Convention of States. Our 30-minute appointment with her enabled us to scratch the surface with our message.

Rep. Conlin is one of over 30 newly elected legislators in this legislative session. As with any new job, these new legislators have a lot to learn. The demands on their time are immense when the diversity of their constituent base is considered. They are working a system that takes time to navigate and to find their opportunity to exert influence.

The new legislative majority in Lansing right now is moving fast with their agenda. My takeaway from the meetings we had with legislators was an educational experience. I learned the ideals we strive for with the COS movement are going to take time and persistence with our representatives in Lansing. We will need to be creative to get our message across and continue to build our army of COS Patriots. It will be an uphill battle, and I for one am up for and excited for the challenge.

Get to Lansing if you can and speak with your representatives. The experience will be highly educational!
