The newest COVID-19 relief/omnibus bill is a disgrace. We highlighted the five worst examples of pork-barrel spending in the 5,500-page piece of legislation, and Mark Meckler joined Larry O'Connor this week to dig even further into new spending package.
Spoiler alert: it looks even worse up close.
"It's 5,500 pages of garbage given to the congressmen two hours before they vote," Mark said. "Not one of these congressmen read this bill before they voted on it. They have no idea what's in it."
"At this point, I'm all for tar and feathering these folks," he continued. "It's so offensive. Any person who voted for this should be thrown out of office. It's a travesty."
Mark is 100% right. The American people shouldn't have their hard-earned money thrown away by their "representatives" as part of bills that aren't even read.
But what can we do? As Mark explains, an Article V Convention of States is the best and only solution to this kind of irresponsible, unaccountable spending.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can place real, effective limitations on federal spending that force Congress to balance the budget without raising taxes or increasing spending.
If an amendment were proposed, for example, that imposed serious financial penalties on congresspeople if Congress fails to balance the budget, you can bet that we'd see much less pork barrel and foreign spending. Amendments forcing fiscal responsibility would go a long way towards reining in Congress' power and putting We the People back in charge.
Fifteen states and over 4 million people have joined the movement. Get involved by signing the Convention of States Petition below.
