The Budweiser Super National Truck and Tractor Pull was a little different this year from previous years. Ernie Thackeray WI District Captain - Tomah reports, “The vendor area, where we were set up, was very sparsely populated this year, totally different from previous years. Even outside vendors (outside of our building) were less than previous years.”
It may be due to the cost of living being very high, or it could be part of a organic backlash to a sponsorship by TikTok personality Dylan Mulvaney. An organized boycott began April first of this year. Ernie talked with people who were concerned with the Bud Light promotion.
The Budweiser Super National Truck and Tractor Pull was held June 22, 23, 24 of 2023. It is a national event that is hosted by a local concern, the Monroe County Wisconsin Agriculture Society.
Attendance is estimated in the multiple thousands. Bud Light sales have been down since the promotion, and Bud Light has lost the top spot in product sales. One of the goals of the Bud Light promotion was to attract younger consumers.
Ernie observed “There were pullers from all over the United States. I saw license plates from many different states in the spectator parking lot. “
And “I attended one of the pulls and sat in the grandstand for over 3 hours and only saw one person trying to sell beer and he was not selling much. There were several selling pop and water and they had easy sales. Remember, this is Wisconsin and beer sales are always an easy sell item, especially at an event like this in hot weather and it was hot.”
And “At present time, Betty and I are not sure if we will desire attending next year. Two vendors that were set up next to us and selling products said they did not cover their expenses and would not be back next year. One of them has been a regular vendor at this show.”
Americans seem to be deciding this Bud is not for them.
