You can lead the charge to influence legislators on social media

Published in Blog on April 22, 2025 by Matt May

The great American wit Will Rogers once said of Henry Ford: "It will take a hundred years to tell whether he helped us or hurt us, but he certainly didn't leave us where he found us."

That sentiment is certainly applicable to social media.

Social media has changed the way we communicate. Whether you think it is brilliant in its simplicity and in circumventing traditional media, or believe it has dumbed the language down and coarsened interpersonal relations and politics, social media is a fact of life -- particularly political life.

So let's use it to our advantage in order to call an Article V convention to reduce the size and scope of the federal government.

Convention of States Action has launched a refocused Social Media Warriors initiative -- and we want you to be a part of it!

It's easy and fun to participate. Every day you will have the opportunity to view your new mission after 10:00 a.m. ET. Then simply click on the links to the day's Facebook and X posts and comment positively on the dynamic content that you will find there.

Our state leaders will be strategically tagging key legislators who have been selected to be influenced by the particular post. We want high engagement and plenty of positive comments and reactions by the time they see the post.

Getting tagged concentrates the mind, particularly of those whose political fortunes rest on the decisions of engaged voters. This is your chance to influence them and move the political needle in our direction.

"I am incredibly excited about this program because of the unprecedented potential it holds for our grassroots to help influence legislators," said COSA Senior Vice President for Legislative Affairs Rita Peters.

"That, of course, translates into helping more states pass our Article V application," she added. Think about it: when your name is tagged on social media, don't you always look to see what the post is and why you were tagged? When these key legislators look at these posts, they will not only learn about nationally renowned endorsers or see a logical response to an anti-Article V argument, they will see scores of short, intelligent, pro-COS comments from supporters. In what other scenario does a volunteer from New York get to influence a legislator from Montana?"

The proof is in the pudding, especially in Montana ahead of a floor vote on the COS resolution in the legislature there earlier this year.

"We ran this program for about a week," said Peters, "tagging a group of six Montana legislators who were planning to vote 'no,' before the Montana House floor vote. Three of those six legislators ended up voting 'yes.'"

That was only a single week -- think of what can happen when you do this every day.

In case you need more convincing, take a couple of minutes to listen to COSA President and Co-founder Mark Meckler discuss this social media initiative, why it can pay long-lasting dividends, and how easy it is for you to help:

Check here each weekday for the daily mission after 10:00 a.m. ET!

This is your chance to use social media to help us in the quest to touch the hearts and minds of legislators across the country, and call an Article V convention to limit the reach of the federal government for good.

We're over halfway there. This initiative can make the difference, and we hope you will join us.
