How Businesses Are Destroyed

Published in Blog on July 18, 2024 by LeRoy E Cossette

As a past small business owner, I can attest that running a small business isn’t easy. Succeeding is difficult at best and made more difficult by federal regulations that do nothing more than hold you back.

Our capitalistic form of government thrives on the dynamism of small businesses, which power more than 45% of America’s economy. They are not just businesses but unsung heroes of our economic growth. However, today, this vital engine has been hampered by inflation and burdensome regulations.

While federal regulations affect all sectors of the American economy, they disproportionately burden small businesses. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's data indicates that regulations cost large corporations an alarming estimated $1.9 trillion annually. However, for small businesses with 50 or fewer employees, this cost is nearly 20% higher on average, a staggering disparity that cannot be ignored. *

The federal government's constant bombardment of regulations is an example of extreme government overreach. Overreach impairs small businesses' ability to stay open and dramatically impacts American citizens' financial ability to pursue their dreams.

There is a way out of this never-ending government regulatory nightmare. That way is through convening a Convention of States under Article V of the Constitution. Article V allows “We the People” through our state legislators to convene a Convention of States to propose amendments to the Constitution to rein in our government’s crushing overreach through costly regulations.

The North Carolina Convention of States Action movement is currently working with the North Carolina State Legislators to pass HJR 235, which allows North Carolina to join the other nineteen states that have already passed such a Resolution. HJR 235 has passed in the House of Representatives and now needs to be passed by the Senate.

Remember that we, the citizens of North Carolina, hold the power to bring about change. But this power can only be realized if we actively engage in this critical process. Please take a few minutes to contact State Senators and strongly encourage them to support the passage of HJR 235. Your voice matters.
