Help Us Pack the Maryland House Online Hearing!

Published in Blog on March 02, 2022 by Maria Moungelis Bedard

Breaking News:
COS Action Founder Mark Meckler Scheduled to Testify in Maryland Committee!

Last week we testified in committee in the Senate, now it's time for the House of Delegates!

Attending a public hearing on proposed legislation is one of the most important actions in civic duty. It is the best way to engage lawmakers who depend on your input for policy and decision making.

The right to petition your government is deep in the roots of our founding documents. To uphold our right to petition to make a difference, we must actually exercise it.

Your Convention of States Maryland team is asking you to join our volunteers online who will testify on the morning of Thursday, March 3, representing all of us who wish to see the COS resolution passed in Maryland and the country as a whole.

“Legislation is decided by those who show up.”

Here's how you can exercise your right to petition your government:

  1. Together, with strength in numbers we can exercise polite, professional, positive, and persuasive influence by running the online viewership as high as we can!

The first thing our legislators should be asking is, “how does this resolution impact my constituents?” To answer this question, we need to build the necessary framework connecting the People and their politicians by tuning in to the hearing.

Help us fill the House Committee YouTube channel to let our legislators know you support the Convention of States House Joint Resolution HJ6. We have engaged volunteers willing to testify with succinct points during the testimony and we hope you will join us for the hearing at 8am on Thursday, March 3, 2022.

We do not yet know the exact time we will be testifying- please tune in Thursday morning to get the latest information. We also plan to text all our COS petition signers, so ask everyone you know to sign the petition and tune in!

  2. Contact your legislator NOW using this link
We’ve made it easy for you to reach out to those who represent you through this link which automatically identifies your legislators.

  3. If you are a constituent of a committee member hearing the resolution, please also consider writing them. We need a resounding number personal emails, hand written letters, and phone calls made to these committee members from their constituents - whether or not you join the House Hearing Thursday, March 3rd.

The resolution is going before the Rules & Executive Nominations Committee made up of the following members.
Chair
Delegate Anne Healey, D32

Vice Chair
Delegate Marvin Holmes, D23B

Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary, D13 Delegate Ben Barnes, D21
