The federal government spent $1.1 Million of our money to get mice drunk and to study alcohol use disorders the mice experienced. Sound reasonable?
According to Festivus Report 2022, The National Institutes of Health (NIH) gave $1,011,157 to the University of Concepcion in Chile to study the effects of alcohol on mice.
In this study, mice were injected with alcohol, and their behavior was observed for five minutes. The study aimed to apply the findings to mankind.
Couldn't we have done that by reviewing the many studies already done here?
Alternatively, we could have done this study at no cost by sitting in our local bar to watch human behaviors. Or read the many well-researched articles on the subject that have already been published and peer-reviewed.
Is NIH part of the international aid program? Aren’t there many other critical priorities for NIH?
It seems outrageous that our government spends our money on useless studies when approximately 140,000 Americans die every year from alcoholism, and 14.8 million American are diagnosed with alcohol use disorders.
Washington cannot and will not protect our money, but we can.
